Forget white walls and polite clapping. Bushwick’s favourite street art gallery lives behind their primary-colored row house in a converted horse stable. (Yes, really.) It isn’t just a gallery — it’s a party disguised as an art show.
Run by Ad and Kate DeVille (aka My Life in Yellow), the space carries the same mischievous energy Skewville is known for. Openings come with DJs or live music, Beyond Burgers, scavenger hunts, free booze and plenty of stories waiting to happen.
The shows spotlight artists you won’t find in cookie-cutter galleries — up-and-comers, experimental voices, half-legal pranksters who keep the city buzzing. Sculptures fine art, group chaos, solo stunts with even custom painted floors.— all is fair game.
Since opening our original Bushwick gallery in 2007, Skewville’s mission has been to create a space where artists can express themselves freely and authentically, while fostering a community where people can gather and connect. Supporting Bushwick Open Studios is deeply meaningful to us, as we witness firsthand the profound impact it has on the artists who give this neighborhood its soul and help make Bushwick a place where people are inspired to live, visit, and Experience.
This Speak-Easy Gallery isn’t just about seeing art.
It’s about living inside it, laughing with it, and maybe even dancing through it.
