4B. Public Stoneware

Nature is full of stories. In her work, Redgate explores the ability of hanging sculptures to tell stories of her personal journeys with nature. She relies on large wood-fired wall platters, bowls, and large-scale bead hangings as her story-telling vehicle. Beads are chosen for their role in history as a primitive communication tool conveying community status, identity, and protection. Her clay bodies, fired in oxidation and reduction processes, produce raw textures encouraging viewers to connect with nature’s powerful forces. It’s a call to honor of materials and craft.

4F. Jared Friedman

My work explores the mundane, navigating between wonderment and apathy of standardized mass production. Through closely observed paintings and drawings I challenge the perceived value, or insignificance, of inanimate objects within a historical context of still-life painting. Through scale shifts, these minuscule, recessed spaces, protruding corners, and plains of cardboard and plastic become cliff edges, walls, inner chasms, and antechambers; treated as expansive architectural landscapes.
