Joseph Meloy (b. 1982) is a New York City-born visual artist working in a style he coined “Vandal Expressionism,” a form of post-graffiti abstraction that draws upon Abstract Expressionism, art brut, cave painting, and hieroglyphics. Melding abstraction and figuration, his work channels subconscious impulses into an otherworldly yet distinctly urban visual language, where spontaneous marks flicker between representation and abstraction.
