Jaynie Crimmins Open Studio

June 6, 2015-June 7, 2015, 12:00 am

Hosted by Jaynie Crimmins

I shred my junk mail, and then scrupulously sew the shreds together.  My household mail in the form of catalogs, letters, financial statements and solicitations arrives with it’s own narrative about why it is being mailed to me.

My work explores issues of cultural engagement – societal conventions including beliefs, behaviors, values, goals.   My practice encourages scrutiny of participation in these conventions, examining and re-arranging what is frequently dismissed as trivial.

I am proud to be volunteering with a group of amazingly dedicated Arts in Bushwick volunteers in  the High School Fellows Program – providing art mentoring and workshops for High School students in the community.

Please go see Home Improvement on Rock Street where my temporary public art piece Nexus is installed alongside incredible works. I also have work in Volume 1 at Schema Projects 92 St. Nicholas Avenue – a show of paper artists.
