DINNER AT AINSWORTH

DINNER AT AINSWORTH

The Ainsworth Restaurant & Bar on Knickerbocker Ave

Tucked right on the corner of Johnson, The Ainsworth gives off that perfect neighborhood-meets-vintage vibe. You’ll spot it right away from the bright yellowish sign out front — warm, welcoming, and just a little nostalgic. A big tree with full green leaves sits out front, framing the cute building and adding to its charm.

From the moment you step inside, the energy hits you — Chris Brown playing through the speakers, giant TVs showing sports and fights, and a backyard that feels almost tropical. The outdoor area has cabana-style seating, wood accents, and cozy furniture, creating a relaxed gazebo lounge vibe.

We got greeted right away by Gabriel, who set the tone for the night — super kind, patient, and genuinely welcoming. He made sure we were comfortable, encouraged us to take our time, and offered up great suggestions from the menu. That kind of service really matters; it makes you want to come back.

He also convinced us to try the house favorite, Para de Sufrir, which means “Stop suffering.” It’s a Strawberry Infused Santo Tequila Blanco, Lime, Cointreau, Agave,
Clarified Milk. Even for a non-drinker, this one hit just right — light, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. The color is gorgeous, this kind of translucent watermelon-pink with a big ice block floating in the center. The strawberry salt rim ties it all together — first you taste the salt, then the sweetness — the kind of cocktail that looks delicate but definitely sneaks up on you.

The food was equally impressive. The sliders were fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The fries were golden, crunchy, and lightly seasoned — just right. The lemon parmesan chicken wings were crispy outside, tender inside, and paired beautifully with the chimichurri sauce. The skirt steak was tender and flavorful, and the smash burger was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and complemented the chimichurri really well. The salad stood out too — the greens were very fresh, and the vinaigrette was light, enhancing the flavors without overpowering the leaves.

We also found out the restaurant is just three weeks old and under new management, which makes the whole experience even more exciting. The general manager is a NYC native, and the team includes a lot of local staff and people of color — something you can really feel in the energy of the place. They’re building something rooted in community, and it shows.

We later met with Sabina the assistant general manager who took us downstairs to check out the venue space, which is still being remodeled, but already looks promising. There’s a sleek DJ booth, comfortable lounge seating, and a full second bar — the perfect setup for events or a late-night vibe. Once finished, it’s going to be one of those low-key gems that tie together nightlife, food, and community in one space. Sabina was very kind and attentive and made sure we were good through the visit.

Overall, The Ainsworth is more than a restaurant — it’s an experience. Between the tropical backyard, thoughtful service, good music, and food that delivers. Whether you’re coming for dinner, drinks, or to catch the game outside under the glow of that big screen, this place hits that rare balance between chill and refined — a true neighborhood escape without leaving the city. We highly recommend you stopping by or consider booking them for your next event or gathering.

Brandon the general manager & Nicole the event manager for bookings are doing a great job. More about them soon.
