Dana Kane was born in Wyandotte, Michigan and studied Art at the University of North Carolina and later received a scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis, where she received a Master’s Degree in Sculpture and Multi-media. She relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1982 where she lives today.

Ms. Kane has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including: a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, one from the Gottlieb Foundation, as well as an Artist’s Fellowship Grant and Change Inc. She also was a Finalist for an NEA/MAAF regional fellowship grant, and received grants from the States of Minnesota and Maryland. She has served as Visiting Artist at the Rhode Island School of Design, as well as Wellesley College, and participated as guest on a panel led by Robert Storr and held at the Judith Rothschild Foundation in NYC. Significant residencies include the MacDowell Colony and the Fine Art Work Center in Provincetown, Mass.

Her work has been seen at the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Exit Art, Sculpture Center, White Columns, Bard College, Ronald Feldman Gallery, Hunter College, David Zwirner Gallery, Merce Cunningham Studio, Vassar College, and has traveled around the U.S. as well as abroad to London, Manchester, Vienna and Cairo. Her work has been written about in the New York Times, The Daily Telegraph of London, The Los Angeles Times, and California State University, Fullerton.
