gouache on cut paper
2.25 x 1.5 inches
All my work begins with the collection and cataloguing of images, mostly objects making up daily life. My labor-intensive process of miniature painting is in service of creating intimacy and slowing down the act of looking. This piece is from a series of 31 empty boxes. It comes from a body of recent work containing painted paper sculptures of boxes, containers and piles. I’m interested in containers that create catalogues of different lives, forming a snapshot biography of a person, presenting the tension of fighting entropy, and speaking simultaneously to personal identity, consumer culture, maintenance, and a moment in time.
