Lila Freeman paints and draws from life. Recent subjects have included Vintage Seltzer bottles, the reigning Mr. Transman 2011, fellow public librarians, a turquoise Onitsuka Tiger sneaker, and the views from the roof of 1465 Myrtle Avenue. She takes visual inspiration from her collection of illustrated children’s books as well as the work of such artists as Richard Diebenkorn, Alice Neel, and Lisa Yuskavage. Lila’s process is fueled by the music she listens to while she works; her dream drawing or painting would give viewers the same jolt of joy they get from hearing the chorus of a favorite song.
