My paintings and drawings depict geometric forms that teeter on the verge of stability and havoc, expansiveness and contraction. By utilizing a central axis (though not often in the center) as a reference point, my work evokes the tension between color, shape and perspectival depth as well as the dynamism inherent in seemingly static forms.
Park of my work as an artist entails creating paintings and drawings that slow down immediate perception by encouraging viewers to question what is most familiar to them within the confines of their accustomed visual vocabulary. Simultaneously, my work reifies the hegemony of opacity and light by forcing the forms to contend for space and dominance on the surface of the painting—thus the light recedes while the dark unexpectedly advances.
